Hi, this is Tim with DoWhatYouCanNow.com. I’m outside on this absolutely gorgeous day for my daily walk. It’s something that I try to do around this time every day. It’s a way to get out of the house and get some fresh air and get some exercise size.
Today I wanted to pause and share a quick story with you. A story about something I did a few years ago, that was really simple, but it made a big deal in my life. And without being overly dramatic, it could also be said that it saved my life.
Have you ever overheated, or have you ever gotten sunstroke or heat stroke? I have. It’s happened to me on a few occasions and it’s not fun. And in fact, it’s rather scary. I remember the first time that it happened to me, it was on a day, much like this. It wasn’t hot. It was in the seventies, but it was sunny.
I hadn’t been outside in the sun for too long, and I remember getting a really bad headache. I remember having to lay down and I remember being incapacitated for a few hours. It was not enjoyable. And even though I tried to prevent it in the future, it happened a couple of other times. And I realized that I was susceptible to overheating and I knew, taken to the extreme, heat stroke or sunstroke could lead to death.
So I knew I had to do something. The problem was, I love to hike. I love to be outdoors. I love to go on these walks like I’m on today, but if I had to be concerned about overheating, then I had to give it up. The simple solution that I implemented in my life was buying the hat that I’m wearing.
This is my Indiana Jones hat as some folks like to call it. It has holes in the top, which allows for ventilation. The really cool feature is this extra-wide brim.
Which when I’m wearing this hat, allows me to walk around in the shade. And so on days like this, even though it’s not hot, I know I have to still be careful. I can wear this hat and be walking around in the shade.
It can be ninety degrees and I can wear this hat and walk in the shade and I don’t overheat.
There are a lot of fun things that I like to do, be outdoors and hike, and so forth. And there are some things I like to do on these daily walks that are stories for another day.

Think about a simple change that you could do. Maybe it’s a mindset change. Maybe it’s a lifestyle change. I don’t know what that is for you. But think about something simple that you could do that if you did, it would be a BIG DEAL in your life. Maybe it’s such a big deal that it could be a life-saving thing for you. I don’t know what that is but think about something simple you could do today and do it.
