Take Action!

3 excuses why people don’t take action. And what to do instead.

The original subtitle for this story was 3 reasons why people don’t take action. But since it’s just you and me here, let’s keep it REAL! We’re really talking about excuses, aren’t we? And I’m as guilty as the next person.

I love to create whiteboard videos. Please watch the video below and then scroll down as I discuss each excuse and what to do instead.

Fear of Failure

Believe it or not, failure is your best friend. Why? Because it will lead to success. First, consider this quote about achievement.

Failures, repeated failures, are finger posts on the road to achievement. One fails forward toward success. ~C. S. Lewis

And this quote puts failure in the proper perspective.

Do not be embarrassed by your failures, learn from them and start again. ~Richard Branson

Daily Doable: Be willing to fail. If it doesn’t work, try something else. What do you have to lose? Fail forward to success and achievement.

Not Knowing What to Do First

I heard a great way to get beyond this excuse. Think of it like this.

I know you say you don’t know what to do but pretend for a moment that you actually do.
What would you tell yourself to do first? Do it!

I also LOVE this quote. It has worked for me several times.

Clarity comes from action, not thought. ~Marie Forleo

Daily Doable: Make a decision and take action. The only way to gain clarity is to do something. If you’re stuck, just pretend you’re not. Your imagination is more powerful than you think.

Waiting for Permission to Begin

This excuse is a doozy. I’m guilty of this one the most. I hope this lovely quote will motivate you to give yourself permission.

Dream and give yourself permission to envision a You that you choose to be. ~Joy Page

And before acceptance comes permission. Permission granted by you.

I had to give myself permission to act, then others agreed. ~Edie McClurg

Daily Doable: Stop waiting! Dream! Raise your hand and pick you! Others will fall in line after you take action.

Bonus: Below is the Director’s Cut Video with Bonus Tip. It’s 5 seconds longer but there’s a cool tip and option for all coffee and tea drinkers out there.

Sometimes inaction can get comfortable. Please don’t let that happen to you.
