I’m getting older!

Ragweed has been wreaking havoc on my sinuses this week. The first frost can’t come soon enough. This time of year reminds me of the aches and pains and sniffles of life.

When I was a young boy, I remember driving by this house in the country. There were two elderly ladies sitting on the front porch. And I remember Dad saying, “They are waiting for the other one to die.” I thought how sad!

Then there’s my friend Forrest. He was like a grandfather to me. Forrest was always moving, always tinkering. One day we were talking and with a twinkle in his eye, he said something I’ll never forget.

I’d rather wear away than rust away.

I thought, how wise!

Eventually, Forrest did wear away but he never lost that twinkle in his eye. It’s been years since that conversation but I’ll never forget what he said.

At my last wellness visit, my doctor told me, “You know, we’re both on the back nine now.”

Yes, I’m getting older!

But is it time for a cart? No way! I think I’ll walk. I’m going to be like Forrest and wear away.

Which will it be for you? Wear away or rust away?

Daily Doable: Live your life like Forrest. Wear away!
