As part of Civil Air Patrol, my son Jonathan was allowed to participate with 2 other members in his squadron (KYANG 123) during F-35 Fighter flight simulations.*
For his flight, Jonathan chose to land on an aircraft carrier. You can hear his instructor, an Iraqi War Veteran pilot, in the background.
This is just one of the many cool opportunities the Civil Air Patrol make available for young men and women.
And now, here is Jonathan performing a 3-wire landing. I couldn’t have done it.
There’s so much to say about CAP and the MISSIONS it fulfills for America. I’ll share more in future posts.
*Special thanks to KY 039 for making this possible.
P.S. You’ll have to take my word for it that I didn’t faint:)
This is from the email I sent my community. (If you would like to be a part of it, please fill out the box at the top right of this page.)
As a parent, I’m always looking for opportunities for my boys to learn positive things.
Sometimes I watch from afar (or a few feet as the case may be) as someone else does the teaching. I’m not abdicating my responsibility but every now and then I don’t think it hurts for them to hear another voice.
Today I watched as a couple of Air Force veterans instructed Jonathan on how to fly an F-35 fighter jet.
For me, this was more than him learning how to land on an aircraft carrier. It was learning how to listen to and follow instructions. Instructions from a superior. Skills that will serve him well in life.
This is awesome! Your son really gets it. Yes, these skills will serve him well in life and he is already a role model for others
Thanks Melva. His little brother was watching very intently:)
